This new photographic reality is more than present in our album, which invites the viewer to take a dizzying flight over Russia, admiring its fascinating landscapes from the Curonian Spit to volcanoes of Kamchatka, from the Polar Region to Lake Baikal. In my opinion, once you open this book, you will not be able to put it down. I envy those of you who have not seen the album yet, for you have yet to experience that unforgettable feeling of flying over Russia for the first time. Sergey Yastrzhembsky documentary filmmaker, photographer, traveler away. Obviously, it is impossible for one photographer to take on a project of this scale alone. The only way we could undertake such an endeavor was to unite the creative capacity, enthusiasm and skills of the best professional photographers working across different regions of our large country. The result is a broad photographic chronicle of our homeland in all its richness and diversity. The fact that this album also features reproductions of works by famous painters and images of Russian traditional crafts lends it a particular charm and depth. In my opinion, there are many similarities between my two great passions, photography and hunting: A good photo moves viewers and the photographer himself in the same way as a long-sought trophy moves a hunter. The guru of photography Henri Cartier-Bresson describes the similarities between these two passions with amazing accuracy: “When a photographer looks through a viewfinder, the line of sight passes through his eye, head and heart”. I could not say it any better. I will only add that, in both photography and hunting, the best results are achieved by quick reflexes, luck, a firm hand and a good eye. This is especially true when shooting from the air, when one is literally “hunting” for the rapidly disappearing reality, trying to make it eternal. For me, aerial photography is the most exciting photographic challenge, since you have literally a split second to get the best shot you can.
